Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority in collaboration with the Early Childhood Resource Center is offering family programing for children at Linwood Acres! Felicia Nicholson with ECRC works closely with children and their parents to provide educational and fun activities during the summer months.
Each month, the children are engaged in theme related activities. For the month of June, activities relating to transportation including: a car wash, air rocket control, and a bicycle race have been underway at Linwood.
Today, more than 10 children gathered in the community room to participate in activities relating to what they love about summer. The craft for the day, creating a hot air balloon made from construction paper and a coffee filter, was an interactive way for the children to express their individuality and creativity.
Joe Parker, manager of the Linwood location; Lisa Seeden, SMHA Resident Services Coordinator; Aryn Watkins, a SMHA summer intern; Jamon McClain, a SMHA summer youth counselor; and other volunteers enjoyed an exciting afternoon of arts and crafts and story time before the daily hot lunch program, also scheduled throughout the summer months at Linwood and another SMHA location–Ellisdale
“Promoting literacy is a major component of the family programs at Linwood”, stated Ms. Nicholson who explained that July’s theme, Take a Look Read a Book, is centered on literacy enrichment. “The goal is to read 10 books by July 29th. I know that they will far exceed that because the parents here at Linwood are very involved and read to their children.”
