March 1, 2021, Canton, OH  – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority (SMHA) $6,737,200 to make capital investments in its public housing units.

The grant was provided through HUD’s Capital Fund Program which offers annual funding to all public housing authorities to build, renovate and/or modernize public housing.  SMHA will use the funding to complete large scale improvements such as replacing roofs, upgrading elevators and renovating units.

SMHA recently completed a $3.2 million energy conservation project in partnership with Johnson Controls, which included energy efficient upgrades to heating systems and installing water conservation measures.
