Planning & Development Department
The Planning and Development Department is responsible for the development and modernization of the SMHA housing portfolio and the management of all commercial buildings owned by the agency. Our mission is to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing to all SMHA residents.
Energy Efficiency Upgrades
Beginning this spring, SMHA will be conducting an energy audit on all SMHA properties to evaluate energy efficiency at each site. When the audit is complete, we will be upgrading units to include energy efficient heating, lighting, and plumbing. These upgrades will include Energy Star appliances, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and automated thermostats among other improvements. If you have questions, please contact us.
Jackson Park-Sherrick Court Redevelopment
The Jackson Park-Sherrick Court community was built between 1965 and 1969 and is currently in need of redevelopment and modernization. While the property has undergone various upgrades over the years, the age of the buildings can no longer be hidden by minor repairs or even major rehabilitation. Over the next few months, SMHA will be seeking community input to determine the best course of action in replacing this aging community.
McKinley Tower Redevelopment
McKinley Tower was built in 1969 and showing its age and wear. Once the “crown jewel” of the SMHA portfolio, the outdated design and construction of the building now prevent us from upgrading the building to modern ADA standards to serve the needs of our senior population. Over the next few months, SMHA will be seeking community input to determine the best course of action in replacing this aging structure.
