In 2002, Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority purchased the Washington Townhomes located in the 1600 block of 10th N.E. in Canton. This is a Section 8 site-based project, which means that the subsidy is tied to the units. Rents are based on income and residents pay 30% of their annual adjusted income for rent. There are 38 two bedroom units located in this development. While a complete renovation was not done, the authority has made several hundred thousand dollars worth of improvements to the property such as new furnaces, new appliances, window replacement, siding replacement and parking lot repaving.
