CANTON, OHIO – STARK METROPOLITAN HOUSING AUTHORITY (SMHA) RECEIVES GRANTS FOR GREEN UP CLEAN UP PROJECT

The Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority was awarded an education grant by the Stark-Wayne-Tuscarawas Joint Solid Waste Management District in the amount of $2,500 to assist with their Green Up Clean Up project, an initiative which focuses on recycling, anti-litter awareness, and beautification. The education grant will assist SMHA in providing workshops, recycling activities, and educational resource materials to, in collaboration with the city of Canton Sanitation Department, promote a recycling program at several family developments. Additionally, SMHA has also institutionalized a recycling program for staff at their central office, warehouse location, and several management offices.

Three Summertime Kids grant awards totaling $6,000 were also awarded to SMHA to implement beautification initiatives at their family-sites. The proposed projects will focus on hands-on learning experiences for children who reside in SMHA developments to address the necessity of responsible environmental care, green space beautification, and environmental sustainability.

SMHA has also been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency to facilitate litter cleanup events at Jackson Sherrick, Ellisdale Homes, and Linwood Acres. Litter cleanup events will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Jackson Sherrick, 1315 Gonder Ave. SE, on Tuesday, July 26, 2016; Linwood Acres, 3331 14th St. SW, on Wednesday, July 27, 2016; and Ellisdale Homes, 3809 31st St. NE, Thursday, July 28, 2016.
