WAITING LIST Q&A

An application shall be considered active for one year from the date of application or from the most recent annual update of application. You will also be instructed to report any changes in income, family composition, or address and to renew their applications on a regular basis. Once each year, applicants will be sent a renewal letter to update their application. If the renewal letter is not returned, the applicant's name will be withdrawn from the waiting list and given an "inactive status".

Preferences for placement on the Waiting List

  • Applicants living in substandard housing
  • Homeless Families
  • Veterans and Servicemen
  • Residents of Stark County
  • Applicants are receiving income from employment for at least 90 consecutive days
  • Participating in an education or job-training program
  • Applicants that are transitioning out of health care facilities to live independantly
Applicants who are unable to be employed due to a disability will be defined as "employed" for this preference.

Q - What is the status of my application?

A - The processing period for a new application is currently three to five months. You will be notified when a unit is available.

Q - How do I notify SMHA of changes in my phone number, address, family composition and/or income?

A - You must submit all changes in writing within ten calendar days. Please address all changes to:

Q - How do I know that my application has been approved?

A - All applicants will be notified in writing whether their application has been approved and placed on our waiting list.
